A project undertaken during the Physical Computing Level 8 module at Napier University
The Home Heat Hub project was brought about by a desire to design and build an inexpensive
intelligent heating control system for the home. An all-encompassing device which would sense the
room temperature, have local controls and a web interface to control and monitor from literally
At the heart of the design is an Arduino Nano microcontroller which reads from a temperature sensor
and controls the heating via a relay module. The system is equipped with an LCD display with
buttons for local control and a wireless device to communicate with a locally hosted webserver.
The Home Heat Hub is not a complete operational unit at this stage, 2 separate programs are
required for full functionality. All deliverables have been approached with future works planned to
bring everything together.
